This was one of the best western shows on TV in years, too bad HBO canceled the show after only three seasons :(. What's worse is that the series was never able to come to a proper conclusion - the series was just "canceled" out of nowhere :(. The good news is that since the show is based partially on true stories and real people, you can probably fill in the blanks with a small amount of research. The show isn't entirely based in reality, there are fictional characters and plot points as well which are, admittedly, exaggerated (but in a good way).
The shows cast is excellent, every actor is believable and plays their part well (my two favorites being Timothy Olyphant as Seth Bullock and Ian McShane as Al Swearengen). At first, I was somewhat shocked by the dialogue (profanities, some of which I had never heard, are spoken every little while by the characters) but as the series went on I became kind of used to it.
I guess the best we can hope for is that HBO someday revisits the series. In the meantime, I recommend checking it out (I believe the series is being released on blu-ray in the coming weeks so there's no reason not to :) ). Highly recommended.
