Seasons of Love is the most iconic song from the Rent musical. In all the versions of Rent I have watched, the song is sung by the entire cast.
The subject of the song is how one should measure a year. Various answers are provided from the scientific (i.e. 525,600 minutes which is the total number of minutes in a year) to the symbolic (i.e. how much laughter or hardships have been experienced). The agreed upon answer is that a year can only be measured by love.
This amazing song was both written and composed by the late, great Jonathan Larson. The lyrics are wonderful and the background music fits the song extremely well. Recently some have tried remixing this tune. I have yet to find any alternate version that I enjoy as much as the original - this is a definite case where others should not try to fix what isn't broken.
Overall, this is an amazing song that anyone interested in broadway musicals (or music in general) should check out.
