I really had high hopes for this film when I first saw the trailer. This movie was supposed to be a remake of the prior films, yet somehow the filmmakers lost touch with the legacy of Jason and just created a ho hum remake with no impact.

The story in case anyone does not know is centered around a deformed child named Jason who supposedly drowned (or at least that was what his mother mistakenly thought) and this drowning results in his mother killing all the counselors at the camp as revenge. However, the mother does not realize that Jason never drowned and in fact came back to the camp while the mother was chasing down a counselor to kill her only to see his mother being beheaded by that counselor :( This results in Jason growing up to become a psychopathic killer who carries a machete and wears a mask and kills people for no real reason other than revenge...that is how the movie should have gone, but unfortunately it doesn’t.

The filmmakers chose to combine three films in one it seems and this leads to a lot of confusion and odd story elements. First the filmmakers never really gave any history on Jason or his mother other than the first few minutes of the film. Second the actors are all a bunch of nobodies and most besides the main actor Jared Padalecki cant act very well. Third the film gives the impression that all Jason cares about is protecting his marijuana stash which was never what Jason was about. It really is quite ridiculous. The final straw for me was that the story was just horrible. Jason kills people then brings them back to his underground pad...why who knows. The ending was also terrible. I am trying to keep this is spoiler proof as possible so I wont go into any more detail just in case someone actually wants to see this garbage. :)

The special effects were okay but there is absolutely nothing new here and its all something every horror fan has seen before. The music is almost non existent and the sets are all pretty poor.

I really have to say that no horror fan should bother with this...instead re-watch or rent the first 4 films and watch some real Jason. This movie is also not for kids in case anyone was wondering as there is a lot of violence and nudity.
