Little Big planet is quite an interesting game...it has all the makings of a stellar title, but unfortunately fails to reach that title. The concept is original, the character is unique and the visuals and sound are outstanding. The two main flaws of this game are the controls and the very uneven difficulty which I will go into later in the review...
The main goal of Little Big Planet is customization and platforming through the various "story" an user created levels in the game. The various story lines involve quests to save or rescue various characters or defeat some nefarious villain...however the way that "Sackboy" (the main character of the game) does this is very unique and unusual. Sackboy will have to swing, jump and run around obstacles to complete these mini quests. These quests are all fun, but the story element is really lacking as you never really learn anything about any of the other characters or even Sackboy while playing them :(.
The visual as probably the most unique aspect of this title. Each level is designed beautifully and the colors are all very bright and artistic. The sound is also very nice and matches the levels nicely. Overall these two elements really enhance this game and elevate it to one of the elite PS3 games and really show what the system can achieve.
Another great feature of this game is that they incorporated online multiplayer and sharing of the various user generated content. You can go online and choose to play the games levels with strangers or friends or let them try a level you designed. The game literally has thousands of levels online designed by its users for you to try :)
My main negatives of the game are the loose controls (especially jumping), the poor camera and the sometimes very uneven difficulty. One example of this is in the last level.."The Bunker"..the designers chose to incorporate a "wheel of death" that is so frustrating and hard I almost gave up playing this game. It really does ruin the overall experience of an otherwise top notch game. These factors along with the lack of a real story knock the game down a few notches and keep it from reaching that stellar status. It really is a shame as this game is awesome otherwise :)
Overall I recommend this game to any platforming game expert who wants a challenge and likes to create :)
