I recently decided to go out and purchase Pokemon Leaf Green after realizing that I never played this updated version of Pokemon Blue/Red. This was one of the best decisions I have made in a while as Pokemon has never looked so good.

I originally played Pokemon Red and Blue on the old Gameboy and Gameboy color and decided to give this game a go since I recently read that some new islands were added to the game as well as some nice updated graphics and gameplay enhancements.

The basic story involves a Pokemon trainer traveling on a quest to catch all the Pokemon and challenging and beating 8 Pokemon Gym leaders in order to become the Pokemon Champion. This is very fun and is also challenging as in order to beat each gym leader you must have a well trained party which is strong vs the various types of Pokemon that they use. The format Pokemon utilizes is very similar to the old childhood Rock, Paper, Scissors game and each Pokemon in the game is strong or weak versus a different type. Ie. Fire is weak against water etc. This really adds some nice strategy to the battles and will force you to train a well rounded party of pokemon to battle.

The other neat feature of this game besides the lengthy campaign (40hrs+) is the multiplayer element. Players can trade Pokemon via the Gamelink cable and also battle Pokemon in duals. This really adds to the replay value of the game and extends the game out well beyond the initial 40hrs.

The new updates are fantastic. The graphics have been improved, the pokedex has been updated and the TMs and HMs are now conveniently stored in a Case in your inventory :) This really avoids unnecessary scrolling and refines the experience. The new islands are also really good and allow you to find very rare legendary Pokemon :).

Overall, this game is fantastic and I recommend everyone whether young or old to play this game..especially with Pokemon Black and White coming out soon :)
