This is the first part of a multi-part fantasy novel series called "The Stormlight Archive" by Brandon Sanderson. This epic tale of good against evil takes place in a world that is constantly overrun with hurricanes. It focuses mainly on the journey of a lone soldier that is led into battles that he does not want to join against enemies that he does not know.

In humanity's past an epic war took place between the Voidbringers and the Radiants, with the Radiants fighting on behalf of mankind. The Radiants defeated the Voidbringers and then mysteriously vanished, leaving their weapons and armor behind. Naturally, possession of these artifacts is a major source of conflict during the novel as entire armies fight over their ownership. The more of these artifacts an army possesses the stronger they become - thus forms a neverending downward spiral of chaos.

The novel starts out fairly slow but picks up steam. There were a few lulls in the action but overall Sanderson has crafted another wonderful fantasy tale. I wish the book contained more large-scale battles as opposed to the more common small-scale conflicts that are presented. I also felt that the story focused far too much on the unintriguing Kaladin when there were so many other interesting characters he could have focused on instead, namely Szeth.

Overall I was sad for the story to end since it was so fantastic. I personally can't wait for the next entry in the series. This book is highly recommended.
